Certified clothing for oil & gas and welding operators: how to choose it

There is no doubt that welding and oil and gas activities involve a number of risks which must be taken into account when choosing workwear. Rossini ensures the right comfort and protection from head to toe with its range of clothing and additional protective accessories all certified according to European standards.

    Protection Standards to know

European legislation sets out specific standards for clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) in these areas.

    • Certified EN ISO 11611 Workwear:

They protect the user during short welding jobs and processes of equivalent risks, protect against sparks, short contact with fire and minimise the risk of electric shock in the event of short accidental contact with electric cables. They are made of fabrics resistant to fire and high temperatures, can be equipped with tool pockets or other accessories useful for the work.

    • Certified ATEX Workwear (ATmosphere EXplosives):
    Atex

They protect against explosions that may occurr in areas where mixtures of flammable substances (as gases, vapours, mists or fuels) with air or oxidizing agent are present and, if triggered, may cause explosions.

The ideal protection is always achieved by using jackets/pants or suits made of flame-retardant and flame-resistant fabrics, in order to protect the worker from any sparks or splashes of molten material.

If the work you are doing generates significant amounts of sparks, it is recommended to use additional protection for the head, hands and the front side of workwear.

    Required PPE

    • Heat and/or fire resistant gloves certified in accordance with EN 407:2020 and EN 12477 for the protective gloves requirements to be used in manual metal welding, cutting and related processes.
    • Welding and related techniques glasses certified in accordance with EN 169:2002. They protect the eyes from sparks and radiation generated during the welding or similar process.
    • Welding-specific footwear certified in accordance with the general standard for EN ISO 20345:2022 and made of heat-resistant leather, equipped with metatarsal protection and non-slip sole.
